Back in late July 2020, I was deciding on what to get Darryl for his 50th Birthday… After much debate (with myself) plus the added whinging that several members had to endure from Darryl, I enlisted the help of Markos to purchase a Camaro direct from the USA. It did not take long to find the right model – 1970 z28 Camaro with 350 small block. The year was important as Bumblebee was built in the same year that Darryl was born! So, in Early August, the process began to get “Bee” into the Country. Car was purchased from Gateway Classic Cars; land freight was organized from Florida to Los Angeles. Then we stopped… Covid did not help, but on 22nd September, BEE was finally loaded into the Container, ready for sailing. Import papers were received so 28th September was the day when the ship sailed from LA to China. By the stage, a little of buyer’s remorse set in! The Ship along with “BEE” made into China and then we waited a further week before it got under way again. After some further delay going through Melbourne & Sydney, it made its way to the Port of Brisbane on 30th November. After some pleading with the shipping company, Markos was able to pick BEE up on the 2nd December…. Finally. On the Club’s Christmas Party morning, after a lot of stressful moments, we presented Darryl his 50th Birthday Present (only One month & 2 days after his actual birthday), “good things come to those who wait” Looking forward to hitting the road in BEE along with all the other members in the club….
